Introduction

Exporting Related List means downloading the currently active Related List view of XRL in native Excel format. 

Issues with Data Export in Salesforce Related List 

Related List data download is very complex procedure in Salesforce. There is no way to export the ad hoc Related List view in real-time. A user need to go to Report builder which has specific UI to configure the related list view again, which is mundane and time consuming process.

In XRL, a user can export the data currently displayed in the Related List view with click of a single button.

The export link appears in the default configuration of Related List view as shown in the screenshot.

Procedure

The export functionality works in the following variation:

• Export of all records displayed in the Related List View: Once the Related List view is configured by selecting fields, the user can download the resulting view by clicking on the export button.  It will get downloaded in native Excel format.
• Export of filtered records: A user can export the grid data currently displayed in the Related List view after applying server-side filters and client-side filters to the column. The Excel thus exported will only show filtered records.
• Export of searched records: A user can export the grid data currently displayed in the Related List view as a search result of a text through global search.
• Export of selected records:  If the user needs to export a select few records displayed in the Related List view, one can select those specific records through checkboxes, hit the download button and get only selected records in the Excel format.

Result

Users will be able to see the downloaded records in Excel and draw actionable insights with additional Excel functionality.
