How to enable and use Global Search in XRL
Discover the power of HyperGrid XRL's global search capabilities, and learn how to use them to improve efficiency and productivity.
Introduction
Users can enhance data search capabilities by searching for relevant records in the Related List view dynamically with an input string that searches for data across all fields configured in the Related List. HyperGrid searches the data even in the columns which are not displayed in the active Grid. The Global Search functionality is used to search records by entering simple keywords, or any field type, such as Number, String, Date, Time, and so on.
Please note that this functionality is not visible in default XRL configurations (unlike column filter, sort, etc).
The Standard Salesforce Related Lists don't have “Global Search” feature, thus making data search a slower process as user need to use the filters to find the relevant records, and these filters are slow, restricted to configured columns and not applicable for every field type.
Which type of user can enable/disable this feature?
HyperGrid Power users can enable/disable this feature by using the “Table Settings” in the Configuration wizard. Please note that the “Table Settings” feature is only available for Power users. Standard users cannot use this functionality to enable Global search in the Related List view by themselves. However, a power user can enable Global search for such users by creating a shared view.
Procedure
Step 1: Enter a keyword such as “Phone” as shown in the image below and press Enter. The results are displayed in all columns that contain the keyword “Phone”.
The global search feature is case-insensitive.
Step 2: The HyperGrid XRL Global Search feature also searches for records in columns that are hidden in the active Grid. In the example below, if the power user hides the Description field, and you search with the keyword "Phone," the number of records displayed will include records from the hidden fields.
Results
The above procedure results in the Related List view with only those records which contain the particular string in any of its columns.
